Summer is almost here, and if your boat has been in storage for a few months, it's time to get it ready for another season on the water! Not sure where to start? The following tips can help you prepare your boat for all the action ahead. If you’re in the market for a new boat, come shop with us at Pro Wake Watersports! You can find us in Leesburg and Syracuse, IN.
Inspect the Boat Thoroughly
Before you do anything else, take the time to inspect your boat inside and out. Check for signs of damage or wear and tear, and pay special attention to hoses and fuel lines, looking for any cracks. It's also important to look over all wiring before turning on the electrical system, and replace or repair any damaged wires and other components.
Check the Battery
Next up, check the charge level of your boat battery, and top off the battery with fresh distilled water as needed. On average, boat batteries last about four to five years. If your battery is not holding a charge, you may need to invest in a new one.
Check Fluid Levels
Always check the oil, coolant, and fuel levels on your boat after winter storage. If you added a fuel stabilizer prior to storing your boat, the fuel should be in good condition. Otherwise, you will need to drain the tank and fill it with fresh fuel for optimal performance.
Take Inventory of Safety Gear
Finally, take inventory of all safety gear and equipment on board your boat. Make sure that your fire extinguisher is working properly, and that there are plenty of flotation devices and first-aid supplies on hand. You should also check the expiration dates on all your signal flares, and replace them as needed.
